Analyse Trends

You can perform trend analysis of your trial balance from Trends tab in Data Analytics.

To perform Trend analysis, Trial Balance and Chart of Accounts are required.

Note: For now, Trend Analysis can be performed only on the system financial grouping list FINANCIAL (FS).

Use the Filter Pane to view the trends of balances for all the available years for any Type or Classification or Group or Subgroup.

  • Primary Filter: Choose the required group (example: Current Assets, Classification) to display its corresponding data and visualizations. All the charts will now display trial balance trends for Current Assets.

  • Comparative Filter: An optional filter, that can be used to compare against the primary filter selected. The comparison of the two selections will be visualized in the Balance by year comparison chart.

All unassigned accounts are grouped under a single Unassigned group in the primary filter pane. This will help visualize value of unassigned accounts across years.

Visualization

The trends for the selected filters can be visualized across 3 standard charts.

Balance breakdown

This chart shows the breakdown of the selected primary filter into sub-groups and their balances for the current year.

Example: For Current Assets (a classification), the chart will display all the Groups under Current Assets for example – Cash and equivalents; Receivables; etc.

If a Type like Assets/Expenses is selected, all classifications under the selected Type will be displayed.

Note: If a sub-group (the lowest denomination), or if a group with no sub-groups is selected, then no data will be visualized.

Tip: Use the +/- keys and arrows to zoom and scroll across the chart respectively.

Balance by year

This chart visualizes the balance of the primary filter across the years of available imported data. Currently, a maximum of 6 years of data is supported for visualization.

Balance by year comparison

A comparative trend line chart of both the primary and comparative filters will be charted across the available years of balance. If the balance is same across all the years for a filter, then the trend line will be a straight line.

Note: If the engagement does not have any balances, when rolled forward or copied, then that year’s data will not be visualized.

Tabular view

To view the data in a tabular form, click on a chart. The selected chart will be highlighted with a blue border and the table below the visualization will display all the accounts mapped to groups that relate to the selected primary or comparative filter.

Tip: Use the grey split-screen divider to drag up/down to view the table data more prominently.

Refresh Data

To prevent automatic updates to Trial Balance or Chart of Accounts during your analysis, the data is frozen when you land on Trends. Any changes that update balances or accounts and groups will not be synced to your Trends unless you choose to click on Data Refresh button available in the top-right.

Tip: Refer to the Last refreshed date-time below the Data Refresh button to know when the last updates were synced.
