Drill Down from Trial Balance
Overview
The Drill Down from Trial Balance to General Ledger (GL) Transactions feature allows you to explore the journal entry activity behind Trial Balance (TB) account balances. By drilling into an account, you can view the detailed GL transactions that make up the balance for a selected period, improving transparency and supporting audit and financial review workflows.
This feature is only available in Pro engagements and uses a reusable General Ledger view to provide flexible filtering and data exploration.
How to Drill Down from Trial Balance to GL Transactions

Open your engagement in CCH iFirm Engagement.

Navigate to the Trial Balance view.

Locate the account you want to analyze.

Select the drill down button on the account
to drill down into its details. -
The General Ledger view opens, displaying the journal entry lines that impact the selected account for the current period
What You See in the General Ledger View
When you drill down from the Trial Balance, the GL view is automatically filtered to show:

All journal entry lines affecting the selected account

Activity within the selected period

Opening and closing balances for context
Filtering and Exploring Transactions
From the General Ledger view, you can:

Apply filters to narrow results (for example, by date range or amount)

Sort transactions to support analysis and review

Remove or adjust filters to expand beyond the original account selection
This flexibility allows you to investigate how balances are composed without leaving Analytics.
