Finalize or Unfinalize an Engagement
When the work in an engagement is complete, you can choose to finalize the engagement. The Finalize feature guides you through a wizard that analyzes the status of workpapers, notes, diagnostics, and sign-offs. The wizard ensures that all open engagement items are completed.
To finalize an engagement in a Pro or Knowledge Coach engagement:

Select the engagement you want to finalize.

Click Finalize from the Actions menu.
Note: The date of the report and report release date are required before the engagement can be finalized. -
The finalization wizard will analyze the engagement and show a diagnostic that requires user input in the following areas:

Unfiled Workpapers. If workpapers exist in the Unfiled Workpapers folder, they will be displayed here. Click Continue to clear the diagnostic.

Unfiled Knowledge Coach Forms. If Knowledge Coach Forms exist in the Unfiled Knowledge Coach Forms folder, they will be displayed here. Click Continue to clear the diagnostic.

Continue without Sign-offs. If any documents are missing sign-offs, the document name and the missing sign-off will be displayed. Click Continue to clear the diagnostic.

Release Active Users. Workpapers that have an active user will be displayed here. Click I confirm to release all active users. Any unsaved changes to the documents will be lost when they are released. Then, click Continue to clear the diagnostic.

Clear and Delete Open Notes. Documents that have open notes will be displayed here. Click I confirm the deletion of all open notes for the listed documents. These notes will be permanently deleted. Then, click Continue to clear the diagnostic.

Clear Diagnostics. Documents that have unresolved diagnostics will be displayed here. Click I confirm clearing all diagnostics for the listed documents. I understand these diagnostics will be cleared permanently. Then, click Continue to clear the diagnostic.

Once all diagnostics have been cleared, click Finalize. A prompt will appear to confirm the finalization. To continue, click Finalize within the prompt. The engagement will be finalized.
To unfinalize an engagement:

Select the engagement you want to unfinalize.

Click Unfinalize from the Actions menu.

Enter in a reason for unfinalizing the engagement and click Confirm. The engagement will be unfinalized.
From the Actions menu, you can also view finalized and unfinalized activity on the history tab, located within Properties. The history dialog displays the activity, username, and date the engagement was finalized/unfinalized.
Engagements in the finalized state become read-only and changes are not permitted. Once an engagement is finalized, the Engagement List displays Finalized in the status column and inside the engagement, the finalized banner is shown next to the engagement name.
