Manage Financial Groups & Subgroups

Access Accounts Grouping page from TB menu

To access Account Groupings from the Trial Balance page, do the following:

  1. Open an engagement (Financial or Tax).

  2. Navigate to the Trial Balance page.

  3. Ensure the right-side menu is visible.

  4. Locate Account Groupings in the right-side menu.

  5. The Account Groupings option is displayed on the Trial Balance page for both Financial or Tax engagement.

  6. Click the Account Groupings option.

  7. You will be navigated to the Account Groupings page in CCH iFirm Engagement where you can view and manage account grouping configurations for Financial and Tax TB.

Add a Financial group on financial tab of the Accounts Grouping page

Once you have accessed the Account Groupings page, you can add a new group to the selected group list by doing the following:

  1. Access the Account Groupings page from the Trial Balance menu.

  2. Select a grouping list from the Grouping List dropdown.

  3. When the Groups and subgroups table loads, it will display the existing groups and sub-groups displayed for the selected grouping list (if any).

  4. Locate the Add New Group button at the top right of the Groups and subgroups table.

  5. Click Add New Group.

  6. A new row is added at the top of the Groups and subgroups table to allow you to enter group details.

  7. Add the following fields for the group, including:

    • Index

    • Name

    • Group Classification

  8. After completing your updates, tab out of the edited field or move focus outside the group row.

  9. If all required fields are entered and the values are valid, your changes are automatically saved.

Edit a Financial group on financial tab of the Accounts Grouping page

Once you are on the Account Groupings page, you can edit an existing group by following the steps below:

  1. Access the Account Groupings page from the Trial Balance menu.

  2. Review the Groups and subgroups table which displays one or more existing groups.

  3. Locate the group you want to update.

  4. Click the Edit icon for the selected group.

    The selected group row switches to edit mode. While the group is in edit mode, the following behaviors apply:

    • The Add New Group button is disabled.

    • The Add Sub-Group option for the selected group is disabled.

  5. You can update any of the editable fields for the group, including:

    • Index

    • Name

    • Group Classification

  6. After completing your updates, tab out of the edited field or move focus outside the group row.

    Note: If all required fields are entered and the values are valid, your changes are automatically saved.

Delete a Financial group on financial tab of the Accounts Grouping page

Once you have accessed the Account Groupings page, you can delete an existing group by completing the following steps:

  1. Access the Account Groupings page from the Trial Balance menu.

  2. Select a Grouping List.

  3. Review the Groups and subgroups table which displays all groups for the selected grouping list.

    Note: Each group row displays a Delete icon in the Actions column.
  4. Locate the group you want to remove.

  5. Click the Delete icon for the group.

  6. Click Confirm to permanently delete the group and any associated sub-groups or click Cancel to exit without making changes.

    Note: Any subgroups associated with the deleted group will also be deleted.

Add a Financial subgroup on financial tab for a selected group

Once you have accessed the Account Groupings page, you can add and save sub-groups under an existing financial group by following the steps below.

  1. Locate the group to which you want to add a sub-group.

  2. Click the Add Sub-Group icon for that group.

  3. Enter values for the following fields as applicable:

    • Index

    • Name

  4. After completing your updates, tab out of the edited field or move focus outside the sub-group row.

  5. If all required fields are entered and the values are valid, your changes are automatically saved.

Edit a Financial subgroup on financial tab for a selected group

Once you have accessed the Account Groupings page, you can edit an existing subgroup by following the steps below.

  1. Access the Account Groupings page from the Trial Balance menu.

  2. Select a Grouping List.

  3. Review the Groups and Sub-Groups table. Each visible subgroup row displays an Edit icon in the Actions column.

  4. Click the Edit icon for the subgroup.

  5. The respective subgroup is highlighted and Index and Name fields are editable

    Note: If the edited subgroup is assigned to Trial Balance Accounts, then all assigned accounts will be updated to Unassigned after this subgroup is deleted.
  6. After completing your updates, tab out of the edited field or move focus outside the group row.

  7. If all required fields are entered and the values are valid, your changes are automatically saved.

Delete a Financial subgroup on financial tab for a selected group

Once you have accessed the Account Groupings page, you can delete an existing subgroup by following the steps below.

  1. Access the Account Groupings page from the Trial Balance menu.

  2. Select a Grouping List.

  3. Review the Groups and Sub-Groups table. Each visible subgroup row displays a Delete icon in the Actions column.

  4. Click the Delete icon for the subgroup.

  5. The respective subgroup is removed from list of subgroups for the associated financial group.

    Note: If the deleted subgroup is assigned to Trial Balance Accounts, all assigned accounts will be updated to Unassigned after this subgroup is deleted.

Manage Tax Subgroups

Add a Tax subgroup to the Tax tab for a selected Tax group

Once you have accessed the Account Groupings page, you can add and save sub-groups under an existing Tax group by following the steps below.

  1. Locate the Tax group to which you want to add a sub-group.

  2. Click the Add Sub-Group icon for that group in the action menu.

  3. Enter values for the following fields as applicable:

    • Index (system generated by default and can be edited)

    • Name

  4. After completing your updates, tab out of the edited fields or move focus outside the subgroup row.

  5. If all required fields are entered and the values are valid, your changes are automatically saved and list of subgroups.

Edit a Tax subgroup to the Tax tab for a selected Tax group

Once you have accessed the Account Groupings page, you can edit an existing subgroup by following the steps below.

  1. Access the Account Groupings page from the Trial Balance menu.

  2. Click the Tax tab.

  3. Review the Tax Groups and Sub-Groups grid. Each visible subgroup row displays an Edit icon in the Actions column.

  4. Click the Edit icon for the subgroup.

  5. The respective subgroups are highlighted and Index and Name fields are editable

  6. After completing your updates, tab out of the edited fields or move focus outside the subgroup row.

  7. If all required fields are entered and the values are valid, your changes are automatically saved.

Delete a Tax subgroup on Tax tab for a selected group

Once you have accessed the Account Groupings page, you can delete an existing Tax subgroup by following the steps below.

  1. Access the Account Groupings page from the Trial Balance menu.

  2. Click the Tax tab.

  3. Review the Groups and Sub-Groups table. Each visible tax subgroup row displays a Delete icon in the Actions column.

  4. Click the Delete icon for the selected subgroup.

  5. The respective subgroup is removed from list of subgroups for the associated Tax group.

    Note: If the deleted subgroup is assigned to Trial Balance Accounts, then all assigned accounts will be updated to Unassigned after this subgroup is deleted.
