Adding Remarks on Trial Balance Reports

Overview

You can now add remarks to Trial Balance reports, allowing you to include analyses, expectations, and other comments related to accounts, sub-groups, and group balances. These remarks are local and specific to the relevant Trial Balance Report. When you export your Trial Balance report, these remarks will be included. The remarks can be viewed in an "in-line" editor (like a spreadsheet) or an "icon" view, which lets you click icons to examine remarks associated with specific balances.

Note: Remarks on Trial Balance reports are not available for consolidated engagements.

Adding Remarks Columns

To add remarks columns on your Trial Balance Report:

  1. Create a Trial Balance report.

  2. Navigate to the Trial Balance Report using the hamburger menu or the Engagement View page.

  3. Click the Edit TB Report icon on the toolbar.

  4. Go to the Format Columns tab of the TB Report Options Pane.

  5. Click the Add new remarks column button.

  • Optionally, rename your remarks column by editing the Name field in the Format columns tab (60-character limit).

  • Optionally, add another remarks column by clicking the Add new remarks column button again.

  • Manage the sequencing of the columns by rearranging their order in the Format columns tab. The top of the table represents the leftmost column, and the bottom represents the rightmost column.

  1. Click the Save button on the Format columns tab.

  2. The report will refresh, and the remarks column(s) will appear in the in-line view.

In-Line View

  1. Add remarks by clicking the cell in the remarks column where a "Pointer cursor" is shown. A pop-out window will appear for text entry.

  • The ID and name of the associated account, sub-group, or group appears in the top left of the pop-out window.

  • A character counter (max 3,000 characters) appears in the bottom left.

  • A Cancel button appears in the bottom right.

  • Resize the pop-out window by dragging its bottom right corner.

  • Save your remark by clicking outside the pop-out window or pressing Enter or Return.

  • The row height will adjust based on the length of the remark.

  • Resize the Remarks column by dragging its column header.

  1. Toggle to the icon view by pressing the toggle in the column header of the remarks columns. The setting (icon vs. in-line) will be retained for the Trial Balance report.

Icon View

  1. Add remarks by clicking the Remark icon in the desired row. A side pane will pop out for text entry.

  • A character counter appears in the bottom right.

  • Click Save to save your remark and close the pane.

  • Click Cancel to discard your remark and close the pane.

  1. Select the reporting dates of your engagement.

Note: Interim reporting engagements only support complete years.

  1. After selecting the year-start and year-end dates, click View current year dates to examine or change the reporting period dates. The default is calendar month start and end dates.

  2. Complete the remaining fields on the Create new engagement page and click Create.

Exporting Your Trial Balance Report with Remarks

When exporting your Trial Balance report, the remarks columns and remarks will be included as stylized text in Microsoft® Excel®, matching the column sequencing in the Trial Balance Report.

Removing Remarks and Remarks Columns

In-Line View

  • To remove text from a remark, highlight it and press Delete or Backspace, then press Enter or Return.

Icon View

  • To delete an entire remark, click the X icon adjacent to the Remark icon and confirm the deletion.

Removing Remarks Columns

  1. Click the Edit TB report button.

  2. Navigate to the Format columns tab.

  3. Click the X icon next to the remarks column in the table.

  4. Click Save. The report will refresh and the remarks column will be removed.
