Referencing Workpapers from the Trial Balance
You can add workpaper reference links to the trial balance so it is easier to access the workpapers as you work in an engagement. Workpaper reference links can be added to the final current year balance and the tax current year balance columns for each account. The links that you add to a trial balance are also visible in your leadsheets, Tax Summary report, Financial Summary report, and Trial Balance reports.
Once a workpaper reference link is added, clicking the link on the trial balance, leadsheet, or Tax Summary report will either open the workpaper in the Workpaper Monitor application (in the case of Microsoft® Word, Microsoft® Excel®, and PDF files), or download the files to your computer (for other file types).
The workpaper that you want to reference must be uploaded to the Engagement View before you can add a reference link to it.
Only one workpaper can be linked per account and balance. Adding a workpaper reference to the final balance on either the Financial or Tax trial balance also adds the reference to the final balance column on the other trial balance.
Notes:
-
If the workpaper you are referencing is included when you roll forward the engagement, the references to that workpaper are retained in the new engagement. Similarly, if you copy an engagement and select to copy a workpaper, the references to that workpaper are retained in the new engagement.
-
Workpaper reference links are not available for multi-tier consolidated engagements at this time.
Add a workpaper reference link to a trial balance.
