Working With Placeholders

Placeholders represent workpapers that will be added at a later time, either from a file that is expected from a client, another application or work that has yet to be completed internally. Placeholders can be rolled forward, copied as part of the copy engagement process, or saved with engagement templates.

Inserting a Placeholder

To insert a placeholder, do one of the following from the Engagement View:

From the Actions Menu

  1. Click on the Actions menu for a custom folder:

  2. Select Create Placeholder.

  3. Enter the placeholder information in the Create Placeholder pane.

    Notes:
    • The Index field is optional, unless a workpaper reference will link to this placeholder (or workpaper).

    • Name is required, Location will autofill with the custom folder that Create Placeholder was selected from.

    • The workpaper index number and name must be a unique combination within the binder.

  4. Select the appropriate setting for Roll forward.

  5. Click Save to create the placeholder.

From the Right Pane

  1. Click Create Workpaper > Create Placeholder on the right pane:

  2. Enter the placeholder information in the Create Placeholder pane.

    Notes:
    • The Index field is optional, unless a workpaper reference will link to this placeholder (or workpaper).

    • Name and Location are required fields for placeholders to be saved.

    • The workpaper index number and name must be a unique combination within the binder.

  3. Select the appropriate setting for Roll forward.

  4. Click Save to create the placeholder.

Replacing a Placeholder

When you have access to the workpaper to be inserted, you can replace the placeholder with the available file. In Engagement View you can either drag and drop the file that will replace the placeholder in the Placeholder Properties pane or click Browse to browse to the file location and upload the file.

To replace a placeholder by dragging and dropping the file, do the following:

  1. Click on the placeholder to open Placeholder Properties.

  2. Drag the file, then drop it in the box outline where it displays the text Drag and drop file here or browse.

    Note: When completed the location will display Successfully Loaded.
  3. You may edit the Index and Workpaper name at this time if the existing information needs to be updated.

  4. Click Save to replace the placeholder in the engagement with the file.

    Note: The placeholder will automatically be removed without having to manually delete it from the Trash.

To replace a placeholder by browsing to the file, do the following:

  1. Click on the placeholder to open Placeholder Properties.

  2. Click Browse in the box outline where it displays the text Drag and drop file here or browse.

  3. Browse in the file explorer to the location of the workpaper and click Open.

    Note: When completed the location will display Successfully Loaded.
  4. You may edit the Index and Workpaper name at this time if the existing information needs to be updated.

  5. Click Save to replace the placeholder in the engagement with the file.

    Note: The placeholder will automatically be removed without having to manually delete it from the Trash.
