Prior Year Leasehold Additions

Entering Additions

You must first create class 13. To do this, refer to the "Capital Cost Allowance" section. You will notice when you save a class that the display of the workchart is modified dynamically so that you can enter data for this specific class. The Prior year additions table will appear in the workchart. To enter information in this table, proceed as follows:

  1. Click the ADD button at the top of the table to enter new data once the first line has been completed.
  2. A line for the addition is created.

Taxation Year

You can enter the beginning of the taxation year in the Prior year additions table. This allows the program to properly calculate the annual CCA. The amortization period of prior year leasehold additions defaults to 40 years (maximum amortization period) when there is no date entered in the cell.

One Table Per Year

Use one line in the Prior year additions table for each prior year in which additions were made for that leasehold interest. The total annual CCA applicable to prior years will then be summarized in the CCA Class 13 section of the same form.

Alternative Solution for Entering Prior Year Additions

You do not have to use the Prior year additions table to enter prior year leasehold additions. You can calculate the annual CCA on prior year additions manually and override the "Total annual CCA on prior year additions" cell in the workchart (Jump Code: 8 WORKCHART). The program automatically adjusts this cell each year when data is rolled forward.

Removing Additions

To remove a leasehold addition made in a previous year, go to the Prior year additions table, then select a cell related to the addition you want to delete and click the Delete button. Answer "Yes" to the question to confirm removal of the addition.

Printing

You can now print the history of leasehold additions for prior years by printing the Schedule 8 – Capital Cost Allowance (CCA) Workchart (Jump Code: 8 WORKCHART).

Note: This form is not required for government filing. However, it is useful to keep for your records in case the CRA requires the information.

Roll Forward

All additions which are still on hand at the end of the year will be carried forward as part of the roll forward procedure.
