Form T2183 is used to authorize an electronic filer to electronically file the filing corporation’s Schedule 89, Request for Capital Dividend Account Balance Verification (Jump Code: 89) or Form T2054, Election for a Capital Dividend Under Subsection 83(2) (Jump Code: 2054) to the CRA.
You must complete a copy of this form for each special election or amendment. More precisely, for each Schedule 89 and copy of Form T2054 with the Eligible electronic filing status, you must complete an equal number of copies of Form T2183. An authorized signing officer of the corporation must sign the copy(ies) of Form T2183 before Schedule 89 or Form 2054 are filed. To print the form, use the Print Form command (Ctrl+P). Take note that the data from this form is not included in the T2 return.
Do not send Form T2183 unless the CRA requires you to do so. Keep a copy of the signed form in your files for six years.
The copy of the form is applicable when a third party completes it and you have activated the box for Schedule 89 or Form T2054 in section 3 (at this time, the electronic filing of Form T217, Election or Revocation of an Election to use the Mark-to-Market Method (Jump Code: 217) is not available). In addition, at the end of section 3, the custom line For internal use: If you wish, you can add a description that will identify the copy of the T2183 form has been added to help track the copies of Form T2183.
When you print a copy of Form T2183 for the first time, the box Date locked in Part 5, Certification and authorization, will be activated and the date will not be updated when you reprint the same copy of the form. This mechanism ensures that the date displayed on screen is the same as the one printed on the form signed by the client.
