Filing Instructions
The T4A slip is issued in 4 copies: copy 1 is sent to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) along with Form T4A Summary, copies 2 and 3 are delivered to the recipient and copy 4 is kept by the payer.
Copy 1 is not required when the T4A information return is filed on electronic media. Please note that electronic media filing is mandatory when more than 50 information slips are completed.
The deadline for filing the T4A information return and for delivering the T4A slips to the recipients the last day of February following the calendar year to which the information return applies. If the last day of February is a Saturday or Sunday, your information return is due the next business day.
The T4A slip may be printed on pre-printed forms for laser available from the CRA. Please, do not cut or separate copy 1 of the T4A slips which is printed with two beneficiaries per page. You must submit the entire page(s). This will ensure a faster processing time for your forms.
The program prints T4A slips starting with copy 1, two recipients per page. Then copies 2 and 3 will print for each recipient, together on one page, along with the recipient's filing instructions. Lastly, the payer's copy prints, two recipients per page.
