Submitting a Request
You can use a single request to request information from multiple accounts and financial institutions. You do not need to create separate requests for each account or financial institution that you need information from.
Before a financial institution can fulfill your data request, the client must authorize the release of that information. The person who provides this authorization is referred to as the client approver. Validate manages the process of requesting the authorization, as well as retrieving the data from the financial institution once the authorization is received.
Prerequisites
To prepare a request, you must have the following information:
- Email address for the client approver. The client approver must have valid credentials to access the client accounts at the financial institution you need data from. If a client has multiple accounts, you might also have multiple client approvers.
- Financial institution name. You can include multiple financial institutions in the same request.
- Account name/number. This information is required for some, but not all data requests. See Information You Must Provide in a Report Request for more details.
Create and Submit the Request
To submit a request, do the following:
- Create a project, if you have not done so already.
- Click the project name on the Project dashboard page.
- Click New Request in the upper right corner of the page.
- Enter the email address for the client approver. The client approver must have a valid login for the client's accounts at the financial institution you need to receive information from.
Note: If there are multiple accounts with different client approvers, click the
link to add more approvers. - Click Next.
- Select at least one financial institution for each approver you added to the project. If an approver has logins for multiple financial institutions, you can add all of them in the same request.
Note: If the financial institution you need is not listed here, then you cannot use Validate to request information from that institution. Contact your client to get information from that institution.
- Click Next.
- Click Add Report below each financial institution and select the type of reports you want to receive.
- If needed, specify the options for each report you want to receive. For more information about the information provided in each report, and to see examples of each, see Reports Overview.
- Click Send Requests. A new line item is added to the project requests page for each report that you requested. The requests display with a status of Sent until they have been authorized by the client approver and fulfilled by the financial institution.
Note: To cancel a single request, navigate to the action menu. Users may cancel multiple sent requests by navigating to the Sent tab. Approved requests, including inquiries to pre-approved financial institutions, may not be canceled.
Tip: To go to the Project Dashboard page from any other page in the Validate application, click Validate under the Firm Applications menu on the left side of the CCH iFirm home page.
Saving a Request for Sending at a Later Time
If you have created a request, but are not yet ready to submit it, click Save instead of Send Requests. Enter a name for the request, and then click Save again. The request will display in the project request list with the status of Drafts.
You can edit or send a saved request by clicking the Drafts filter on the project requests page, and then clicking the name of the request.
What Happens Next?
The Validate application sends an email to the client approver. The email requests authorization for the financial institution to provide the requested data. The client approver can use a link in the email to access and review the requests. All requests for one financial institution can be approved together. See What Your Client Experiences for more details about the client approver process.
After the client provides authorization, the data request is submitted to the financial institution. Once the request is fulfilled, the status of the request displays as Complete on the project request page.
Important: As part of the review and authorization process, the approver must enter their login credentials for the financial institution. These credentials are used to validate the user for the financial institution. They are not retained by CCH or the Validate application.
